2014 Chevrolet SS

Chevy chooses famed Daytona speedway to unveil the 2014 Chevrolet SS. It's Chevy's first rear-drive high-performance sedan in 17 years.

“The combination of an aggressive rear-wheel drive stance and body-side attitude with the right balance of detail and refinement inside and out are the perfect home for Chevrolet's V-8 performance package,” said John Cafaro design director Chevrolet passenger cars and small crossovers.

The engine bay is home to a 6.2-liter V8 that puts out 415HP and 415 lb-ft (562 Nm) of torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted shift paddles and zero to 60 mph will come in about five seconds, so it's certainly not slow.

The new Chevrolet SS also benefits from several other performance attributes, including a MacPherson strut front and a multilink independent rear suspension, a near-ideal 50/50 weight distribution and sports-tuned suspension.

The vehicle sits on 19x8.5 inch front wheels with 245/40 ZR19 tires and 19x9 inch rear wheels wrapped around with 275/35 ZR19 Bridgestone tires.

The interior is also an impressive piece of kit, with leather trim, suede and carbon fiber-like surfaces and ambient lighting. A full-color touchscreen; a MyLink infotainment system; multiple safety systems; automatic parallel parking-assist sensors; lane departure warning; blind-spot detector and backup camera; plus front collision alert.

The 2014 Chevrolet SS will be available in the fourth quarter of 2013, with prices set closer to the on-sale date.
