2014 Volkswagen Golf GTD

The 2014 Volkswagen Golf GTD has been revealed ahead of a Geneva Auto Show debut, which will achieve 56 mpg on the European cycle and sprint to 60 mph in just 7.5 seconds.

Set for UK sale from July, the Golf GTD makes a statement through smoked LED taillights with LED licence-plate illumination; chrome tailpipe; rear diffuser; a large roof spoiler and standard 17-inch alloy wheels shod with 225/45 profile rubber.

The interior gets a GTD steering wheel, tartan cloth sports seats, a sport steering wheel, stainless-steel pedals and foot rest, a GTD shifter grip, and a model-specific instrument cluster.

The Volkswagen Golf GTD Mk 7 powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine with 181bhp and 379Nm of torque. Power is sent to front wheels through a standard 6-speed manual gearbox or an optional dual-clutch 6-speed DSG.

When equipped with the six-speed manual transmission, the GTD has an EC combined fuel economy figure of 56 mpg, some feat considering the car can also reach a top speed of 143 mph.
