2014 Volvo XC90

Volvo has now confirmed will not be launched until the end of 2014 for the 2013 XC90, as part of a nearly $11billion range refresh.

The 2014 Volvo XC90 be the first vehicle to use Volvo's all-new Scaleable Platform Architecture (SPA) and four-cylinder engine family.

All new models on the SPA platform will weigh in at 100-150kg lighter than their predecessors, and the car will be just as practical as the current model and feature seating for seven.

"The new architecture covers about two-thirds of our total sales volume. With about 40 percent of all components shared by all car models irrespective of size, we will benefit from economies of scale, thus boosting our competitiveness," according to Peter Mertens, Volvo's Senior Vice President of Research and Development.

The next Volvo XC90 that promise to be lighter - more powerful and more fuel-efficient than by a series of downsized gasoline- and diesel-burning four-cylinder engines dubbed Volvo Environmental Architecture (VEA).
