buying a used car

Whenever you buy any product second-hand, you’ll want to make sure that everything’s in full working order, especially if it’s something big like an electrical appliance or three-piece suite. The same goes for used cars, as there are a number of checks you need to perform before you decide whether to part with your money in exchange for the car itself. If you like the look of a used Ford Focus from sites such as, VCARS.co.uk, but are having second thoughts, here’s what you need to do:

  • Keep the car on level ground. This will make it easier to inspect.

  • Look for any imperfections on the car’s surface. Rust, scratches and blemishes, not to mention dents are all signs of wear and tear that some old cars have, and if there are quite a few, it could cost a lot to get them fixed. Also, make sure the edges of the car are ok between the doors. Anything that’s uneven isn’t too good.

  • Perform similar checks on the car’s interior. Look for any wear and tear on the seating as well as the car’s mileage. When checking the boot, make sure there’s no rust or other form of damage.

  • When looking at the car’s engine, make sure that it’s clean, free from dents or rust and that it has a Vehicle Identification Number. Meanwhile, make sure that there are no cracks.

  • The same goes for the hoses and belts for the radiator or other components under the bonnet or underneath the car. This should mean it’s safe to drive.

  • Check the car’s tyres. If any of them are uneven, they need to be pumped or replaced, while any well-trodden tyres should also be replaced. Make sure the spare tyre is in good condition too.

  • Make sure the brakes, acceleration pedal and electronics are working. Ask the car retailer if you can take it for a test drive. This will show if the car is working. If there are problems, you shouldn’t buy it.

After visiting a site such as VCARS.co.uk, you will begin to have an idea of what to do when buying a used car. It will help you to prepare for buying used, and could also save you money too.
