2014 Chevrolet Silverado

After seven long years, General Motors has officially unveiled the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.

Described as the "strongest, smartest and most capable" pickups in the company's history, the car won't use a V6 engine adapted from passenger car applications.

"Don't let the work boots fool you. Truck customers are among the most discerning and demanding in the business," said Jeff Luke, executive chief engineer for full-size and midsize trucks.

Notable highlights include three body styles will remain available, a prominent grille, new projector beam headlamps are offered on both trucks, a new integrated bumper-mounted tailgate and a dual 'power dome' hood and flared fenders.

There's also a variety of wheels sizes will range from 17 to 18 to 20 inches with 22s available through dealers.

"We think both Chevrolet loyalists and competitive shoppers are going to find a lot to love about the new Silverado, beginning with the very first time they sit behind the wheel," he added.

The new trucks have received many interior updates, such as Crew Cab buyers can now select between a five-foot, eight-inch bed or a six-foot; a 4.3-inch screen in the dash mounted info cluster; an optional MyLink infotainment system and a trio of climate control knobs.

In addition, the Chevrolet Silverado & GMC Sierra can be had with up to five USB ports, four 12-volt outlets and one SD card slot.

New for 2014, Silverado will offer several segment-leading features. Lane Departure Warning; front and rear park assist; Forward Collision Alert; camera mounted in the tailgate and spotter mirrors.

Under the hood, three new EcoTec3 engines will be available: a 4.3-liter V6, a 5.3-liter V8 and a 6.2-liter V8. All three mills will boast direct injection fuel systems as well as a new cylinder head design.

Electric power steering is standard across the line, as are stiffer front springs. For the first time, Silverado 1500 crew cabs will be available with a longer 6'6" foot box, in addition to the previous 5'8" box, enabling customers to carry more cargo while still being able to park in many garages.

According to a report, the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado & GMC Sierra will go on sale in the middle of next year.
