Following this morning's leak, BMW has officially unveiled its M6 Gran Coupe. Aimed directly at the Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG, Porsche Panamera Turbo and upcoming Audi RS7 - the 2014 BMW M6 Gran Coupe is set to makes its world debut at the Detroit Auto Show next month.

The car is made instantly unique among four-door vehicles by its bonded-in carbon fiber composite roof panel, similar to the one found on the M6 Coupe.

Visually, the M6 coupe-like profile has been accented by all of the usual upgrades we'd expect including an aggressive body kit with a new front bumper, painted brake calipers, a signature twin-kidney M grille, flared wheelarches, optional Adaptive LED Headlights, four exhaust pipes in the rear diffuser and stylish 20-inch wheels wrapped in ultra-high-performance summer tires.

The M6 Gran Coupe weighs in at 1,950kg, just 5kg more than the M5, while 113-millimeter (4.45”) longer wheelbase.

Inside the M6 Gran Coupe gets exclusive carbon fiber trim along with boot space is 1,265 litres. The model is nicely equipped with Merino leather seats, the iDrive control system with a 10.2-inch Control Display, door sills with “M6” lettering, three-spoke steering wheel, Anthracite Alcantara and Leather are all standard equipment, leather upholstery and rear climate control.

The rear compartment offers three seats, the backrests of which can split and fold down in a ratio of 40 / 60 to increase luggage flexibility.

Under hood, the M6 Gran Coupe uses the same twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine and double-clutch transmission as the latest BMW M5. Power peaks at 560 HP (412 kW) and 680 Nm (502 lb-ft) of torque. This power is sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and an exclusive electronically controlled Active M Differential for optimal traction.

BMW says the M6 Gran Coupe is capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 155 miles per hour. However, buyers can increase it to 189mph through an optional driver's package and adds some uprated tyres to cope with the extra high speed potential.

In terms of efficiency, average fuel consumption is put at 28.5mpg on the European test cycle with CO2 emissions of 232 g/km.

The Gran Coupe should be the best-selling M6 in the UK, pricing starts at €128,800 (including a 19% VAT).
