Volvo XC90 is on track for a late 2014 launch

Volvo has now confirmed will not be launched until the end of 2014 for the 2013 XC90, as part of a nearly $11billion range refresh.

The 2014 Volvo XC90 be the first vehicle to use Volvo's all-new Scaleable Platform Architecture (SPA) and four-cylinder engine family.

All new models on the SPA platform will weigh in at 100-150kg lighter than their predecessors, and the car will be just as practical as the current model and feature seating for seven.

"The new architecture covers about two-thirds of our total sales volume. With about 40 percent of all components shared by all car models irrespective of size, we will benefit from economies of scale, thus boosting our competitiveness," according to Peter Mertens, Volvo's Senior Vice President of Research and Development.

The next Volvo XC90 that promise to be lighter - more powerful and more fuel-efficient than by a series of downsized gasoline- and diesel-burning four-cylinder engines dubbed Volvo Environmental Architecture (VEA).

Volvo S60 Polestar concept to the Los Angeles Auto Show

The Volvo S60 Polestar concept is heading for the Los Angels Auto Show this month, and the car will continue its world tour.

Powered by a six-cylinder engine, the S60 Polestar concept packs a punch with 506bhp and torque to a useful 424lb/ft of torque, with a six-speed manual and a modified Haldex all-wheel-drive system transferring power to the road.

This enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 kmh (62 mph) = 3.9 seconds and hit a op speed more than 300 kmh (more than 186 mph).

"We approached this project by looking at the production Volvo S60 as a platform for a potential race car - and the culmination of that data went into the design of the S60 Polestar Concept," added Jan Andersson, chief engineer at Polestar.

The Volvo S60 Polestar features a conservative body kit, a beefier brake system, Ohlins suspension to go along with its lowered and 19-inch rims in 265/30 R19 tires.

“It's a car developed with our own preferences in mind — although we know they are also shared by active drivers,” he added.

Volvo increases V60 Plug-In Hybrid production

Volvo has already made plans to increase production of V60 Plug-In Hybrid in preparation for first customer deliveries of the car.

Initially they made a 1,000 cars for model year 2013 Volvo but the Swedish firm plans to increase output to 4000-6000 cars from 2014.

"The V60 Plug-in Hybrid is a unique car, a historic step, not only for Volvo Car Corporation but for the entire car industry," by Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President of Rsearch and Development at Volvo.

Although technical highlights of the plug-in hybrid have yet to be announced, but the Volvo V60 Plug-In Hybrid expected is powered by a 5-cylinder, 2.4-liter turbodiesel range of up to 32 miles from the 11.2kW lithium ion battery alone.

The Volvo V60 Hybrid is set to become the most fuel efficient car with range of up to 621 miles (1,000 km), 49 g/km CO2, and 32 miles of electric range.

The assembly of the world's first plug-in hybrid diesel will be made at Volvo's Torslanda plant, in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The Volvo V60 Racing Wagon was unveiled last week at Brazil's Sao Paulo Auto Show with releasing a mysterious teaser image, and now the Swedish automaker has unveiled its newest racing wagon car.

A motorsports-tuned version of the V60 wagon, the Volvo V60 Racing wears a white and blue paint job, a body kit all around and 18-inch wheels wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport 2 rubber. While the keeps the regular V60's touchscreen infotainment system.

Powered by a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder T5 engine, the Volvo V6 Racing Wagon has more than 250 HP to the front set of wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Hakan Samuelsson new executive director of Volvo

Stefan Jacoby tenure as CEO of the Volvo Car Group has been stripped of position as CEO and member Hakan Samuelsson will take over as president and CEO, effective immediately.

A few weeks ago it was reported that Steven Jacoby did suffer a mild stroke last month, but reports out of Sweden indicate that his ouster is not related to his health condition.

"I see major opportunities for Volvo Cars to improve profitability, and accelerate our growth plan in China specifically. I am convinced that Hakan Samuelsson's thorough experience and leadership will help us increase performance," said Li Shufu, majority shareholder and Chairman of the Board, in a statement released to the media.

In an official statement, Li Shufu, chairman of Volvo Car Group, announced this decision on behalf of the company, and thanked Stefan Jacoby for his valuable and strong contribution developing the strategy.

Volvo lost about $38 million during the first half of 2012, while China is the biggest overseas car venture and Sweden, where Volvo still has a large production plant.

Volvo C30 will cease in December

The Swedish automaker has officially notified its dealers that North American production is pulling the plug on the Volvo C30 orders have been placed and all production will cease by December.

After six years on the market with around 4,500 units sold per year in the US, the Volvo C30 will end production in December 2012. The automaker's goal with the Volvo C30 was to pulling a high percentage of customers from brands like Volkswagen and Mini.

"We encourage C30 fans to consider the new Limited Edition model currently available, of which only 250 specially numbered cars will be built. With a design that pays homage to the vintage 1800ES, we expect both collectors and enthusiasts to embrace it and carry on the C30 legacy,” Volvo said in a bulletin to its dealerships.

Volvo has announced UK starting price of the Cross Country which can be bought from 22,595 pounds for the 113bhp (115PS) front wheel drive. The 2013 Volvo V40 Cross Country are available to order now with first customer deliveries are expected to commence in January.

The standard Volvo V40 Cross Country SE includes autofolding door mirrors, tread plates, rear reading, 16in alloy wheels, silver roof rails, LED daytime running lights, rain sensor and T-Tec upholstery.

The Volvo V40 Cross Country packs a high-performance T5 Geartronic Lux Nav with three diesels D2 SE rising to £33,875. Equipped turbocharged T5 five-cylinder engine that produce 251bhp (254PS) with All-Wheel Drive.

Following their recent world premiere at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, Volvo UK division has released pricing details for the V40 R-Design. The 2013 Volvo V40 R-Design start from £22,295 for the D2 and they can go up to £31,390 for the T5 Geartronic R-Design Lux Nav.

The Volvo V40 R-Design features a re-profiled front bumper, 5-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels, exclusive R-Design embossed nubuck upholstery, vertical LED daytime running lights, sports floor mats, rear diffuser, silver matt door mirrors and ports steering wheel.

Those looking to upgrade the upgrade have the option of the 2013 Volvo V40 R-Design Lux that complements the standard specification with active xenon headlights with cleaning system, leather R-Design embossed seats, cruise control, rear theatre lighting, cruise control and keyless start.

After recently releasing every bit of granular detail about the 2013 Volvo V40 Cross Country, Swedish auto manufacturer has gone ahead and pulled the curtain at the 2012 Paris Auto Show.

Outside, Volvo V40 Cross Country will be the front grille with a different design; upright day-running lights Sculpted; 19-inch alloy wheels; the Raw Copper exterior launch colour is echoed in the contrasting stitching; the 40 mm increased ride height and an integrated skid plate.

"The new V40 Cross Country is built on the heritage that started with the V70 Cross Country back in 1997. It is designed for those who want a sense of adventure in their everyday life," says Lex Kerssemakers, Senior Vice President Product Strategy & Vehicle Line Management at Volvo Car Corporation.

The next-generation Volvo V40 Cross Country packs a high-performance with three diesels, turbocharged T5 five-cylinder engine with the automatic six-speed Powershift transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox.

Launched ahead of its world premiere at the 2012 Paris Auto Show is the new 2013 Volvo V40 R-Design. Although not the full-fledged Polestar model some had been expecting, but Volvo V40 is getting a new R-Design variant to give the already sleek looking hatchback an even sportier appeal.

Unique the Volvo V40 R-Design elements include a new front bumper with a high-gloss grille; twin exhaust tailpipes; custom five-spoke wheels in either 17 or 18-inch sizes and silk-metal finished details. In addition, buyer can choose from seven exterior colors.

Inside the cabin of the 2013 Volvo V40 R-Design we find sport seats in a blend of black Nubuck textile, a new instrument display screen, embossed R-Design leather/T-Tec upholstery, new aluminium inlays with a perforated look and sports steering wheel.

The 2013 Volvo V40 R-Design offered with the same array with all engines available for the V40, from the D2 diesels to a high-performance turbocharged T5 five-cylinder engine rated at 254 horsepower (187 kW) and promising 0-60 mph times of 6.7 seconds.
