2013 Volkswagen Golf Variant revealed early

2013 Volkswagen Golf Variant

These are the first official photos with the 2013 Volkswagen Golf Variant - ahead of its debut at the Geneva Auto Show next week.

No details of the car were revealed, but it's styling is a cleaner and sharpener evolution of the current model with a better-looking rear end.

The tail lamps adopt a rounder design than the ones found on the hatch, and a TSI engine sporting silver roof rails and five double-spoke alloys.

Full details will have to wait until later, but we have a good idea of what to expect. Expect a wide palette of gasoline- and diesel-burning engines with a 1.4-liter turbo four or a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel along with transmission choices including VW's DSG dual-clutch automatic or a six-speed manual.

We don't have any images of the interior, but this new model will share its MQB bones with the new Golf.

Full details will be available next week when the car will be shown at the Geneva.

Volkswagen Routan officially canceled

Volkswagen Routan axed

Chrysler may have been at their worst, but historically they have been the choice in domestic minivans. With sales of the Volkswagen Routan MPV down by 16.9% when compared to last year's numbers (only 9,923 units sold through November) - the car has apparently been discontinued.

A few hours ago, the Jaguar C-X75 concept has been officially axed because of the global economic crisis.

The news was apparently slipped in under the radar into an announcement of production adjustments at the Chrysler plant, in Windsor, Canada where it is currently being made.

Volkswagen needed a vehicle in that segment, they needed it cheaper than importing or modifying one of their current European models.

Klaus Bischoff, Volkswagen's head of global design, recently admitted that no plans to replace the Routan with a new model on the company's to-do list.

2015 Volkswagen Phaeton introduce new design direction for VW

2015 Volkswagen Phaeton

After Volkswagen's has confirmed that the next-gen Phaeton will be offered in the United States - the car will introduce a new design direction for VW when it arrives in showrooms in 2015.

Design boss Klaus Bischoff told Auto Express that the current range of Volkswagens look very similar.

“Flagship models like the Phaeton should act as halo products and influence the way the other cars in the range look, rather than the other way round,” he added.

Bischoff also criticised models in the company’s current line-up for looking too similar, but will bestow each model with individual design characteristics.

Bischoff believes that “There will be a specific look for saloons, one for our SUVs, one for the people carriers and one for our hatchbacks."

Like the current model, the next Volkswagen Phaeton wouldn’t compromise practicality or driving experiences.
