Toyota recalling 11,200 Scion iQ to rectify passenger weight sensor
The Toyota Group's has announced a voluntary recall of 11,200 Scion iQ models from the 2012 and 2013 model years to rectify a faulty passenger weight sensor.
The company said that this sensor are located in the seat assembly, which are prone to damage when the seat is moved backward or forward. And if the cables are damaged, the airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioner may not function properly or at all when needed in a crash.
To rectify the threat for Scion iQ, the Japanese carmaker's dealers install new protective covers over the sensors to fix the problem, to prevent future damage.
The automaker plans to alert Scion iQowners of the issue next month, the repair should take approximately an hour. The company says there have been no crashes or injuries related to the defect.
