McLaren MP4-12C GT priced at £375,000

McLaren MP4-12C GT3 Can-Am Edition

McLaren Automotive will build 30 track-only versions of the MP4-12C GT3 Can-Am Edition race car, first seen at the Pebble Beach Concourse 2012.

The car is based on the 12C GT3 race car and celebrating the legacy of Bruce McLaren and Denny Hulme, who successfully raced a series of McLaren models in the Can-Am series.

McLaren describes the MP4-12C GT Can-Am has “the ultimate track car”, it features an aggressive aerodynamic package that increases downforce by an impressive 30 percent.

Numerous parts will be swapped out for carbon fiber components, engine cover vents, door mirror mounts, side radiator intake vanes, sill covers and badges.

Another unique features of the car is forged lightweight racing alloy wheels finished in black satin paint, with Pirelli racing tyres.

Power is from the same twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 rated at 630bhp thanks to its unique calibration and optimized cooling system.

Production of the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 Can-Am Edition will begin in March, while each model will cost £200,000 more than the standard 12C, at £375,000.

Porsche 961 direct rival Ferrari 458 Italia and McLaren MP4-12C

Porsche CEO Matthias Muller has confirmed that admitted they are targeting the Ferrari 458 Italia and McLaren MP4-12C with this new Porsche 961.

According to the company's CEO Matthias Muller, the Porsche 961 will borrow technology from the 918 Spyder, after the 959-based Group B sports car.

Under the hood 961 will use some of the technology from its hybrid brother get the 918's V8 4.6-liter engine with 570 horsepower provided by that RS-derived powertrain. This should be enough to allow the model to 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in a little over three seconds.

The Porsche 961 is expected to cost somewhere around £250,000.
