2014 Maserati Quattroporte officially revealed

Maserati has revealed additional information about the 2014 Quattroporte - confirming that there will be a turbocharged V6 option, as well as a turbo V8.

Under the bonnet will be a new entry-level engine, a Pentastar V6-based - twin-turbo direct-injection 3.0-liter that develops 523 hp at 5,500 rpm - 479lb/ft of torque at 1,750 rpm and promising 0-60 times in the five-second range and a top speed of 177 mph.

Maserati will also offer a more powerful V8 twin-turbo direct-injection - buyers will get 523 hp at 6,500 rpm and 479 lb-ft of torque at 2,000 rpm. With this powerplant, the 2014 Maserati Quattroporte reaches 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and goes on to reach a top speed of 191 mph.

The 2013 Maserati Quattroporte is 207.2 inches (5263mm) inches long, 76.7 inches (1,948mm) wide making it 6.4 inches (163mm) longer and 2.5 inches (64mm) wider than its predecessor.

Much of the body and suspension is made of aluminum components in the chassis and on the body to reduce weight by up to 220 pounds. Suspension is a new Skyhook setup with front control arms, adjustable dampers and a rear multilink.

Maserati reportedly claims that it has used steering system is a speed-sensitive hydraulic setup from TRW, optional four-wheel drive - is a ZF eight-speed automatic and the standard wheels are 20-inch alloys.

The sixth generation of the Maserati Quattroporte prices will start at around £80,000 for the base model, and £120,000 for the high-end versions. The new 2014 Maserati Quattroporte will be revealed at the Detroit motor show in January to boost its annual sales to around 50,000 units by 2015.

The new Quattroporte will be longer and based on a new steel monocoque chassis. The car has an estimated length of 5200mm and the kerb weight of 1990kg.

A significant part of the increase meaning more legroom for the rear passengers, make the impression it seeks on the Chinese market.

Upon launch the 2014 Maserati Quattroporte will be sold with a Ferrari-made V8 engine, a new version of the 4.7-litre V8 that produces 453bhp (338 kW) connected to a ZF automatic transmission.

The interior cabin has been vastly improved, including high-quality woods and leathers are used throughout, the controls will be operated via a big central touchscreen display.

The 2014 Maserati Quattroporte will be built at the old Bertone plant at Bertone, on the outskirts of Turin.
