KIA Cross GT concept live in Chicago

KIA Cross GT concept

KIA has taken the wraps off their Cross GT concept, which it describes as "blurring the line" between GT sedan study and a luxury crossover vehicle.

While clearly a member of the same bloodline as the award-winning Sorento, the Cross GT cuts an even more imposing figure. At 122.0 inches, the Cross GT's wheelbase is longer than Sorento's by 15.7 inches, and its overall length of 192.8 inches is 8.4 inches greater than Sorento.

Some of the upscale styling cues include the clamshell hood and LED technology creates a strong and unique lighting identity that dramatically highlights KIA's signature grille.

Motivation for the concept comes from a 3.8-liter V6 and an eight-speed automatic - that gives the luxury crossover a combined output of 400 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque.

Inside, the Cross GT equipped with leather upholstery, navigation and climate control systems, American Walnut trim and a touch screen infotainment system.

“The debut of the GT in 2011 heralded a new frontier for Kia, both from a design and a business perspective,” noted Peter Schreyer, Kia Motors Corporation president and global chief of design.

2014 Chevrolet Cruze Diesel debut at Chicago

2014 Chevrolet Cruze Diesel

The 2014 Chevrolet Cruze Diesel will start at $25,695 when it goes on sale in the US in May, this machine promises high mileage and clean emissions.

The compact bows with a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine that develops 148 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, allowing for a sprint to 60 mph in 8.6 seconds.

Standards includes 17-inch alloy wheels, leather-appointed seating, Aero Performance package and a rear spoiler.

Chevy expects the Cruze diesel to get an EPA highway fuel mileage rating of 42 mpg, matching the Jetta TDI.

"Chevrolet has a diverse portfolio of products and technologies to meet the needs of the most discerning customer, whether it's driving across town gas free in a Spark EV or cross-country in a clean turbo diesel," said Chris Perry, Chevrolet vice president of marketing.

The Cruze diesel is a bit heavier than the manual-transmission Cruze eco model, coming in at 3,475 pounds. Compared to the gas-powered Cruze, you also lose a couple cubic feet of rear cargo space thanks to a 17-liter diesel emission fluid tank.

The Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel is officially priced at $25,695; roughly $1,500 more than the base price of the Volkswagen Jetta TDI - its most direct competitor.

"There is some correlation between those who would drive a diesel truck and have a diesel car in the garage. We've picked a few markets that are key. But that will be the first month or two and then we'll roll out (nationwide)," said Cristi Landy, director of Chevrolet small car.

While the engine will be made in Germany, final assembly will take place in Lordstown, Ohio, where all American-market Cruzes are built.

KIA has released the first photos of the KIA Cross GT Concept ahead of later today’s debut in Chicago Auto Show.

The Cross GT is said to be larger in size than the KIA Sorento crossover, which hints at a future "premium" crossover bigger than the Sorento.

KIA's shark-nose grille is prominent; slender headlights; chunky alloys; glass roof and a chrome-trimmed greenhouse. The concept also appears to have large alloy wheels look like something one would find on a pimped-out luxury SUV.
