2014 Bentley Continental Flying Spur debut ahead of Geneva

2014 Bentley Continental Flying Spur

After showing us a couple teasers recently, the 2014 Bentley Continental Flying Spur with some styling cues borrowed from the GT and GTC models - has broken cover early today.

A lower roofline combined with sharp lines and rounded surfaces make the new Flying Spur appear lower and wider; a more upright front grille and lower door handles and front fenders that feature a new "wing" vent with the Bentley "B" motif.

Standard bright-painted or diamond-turned finish 19-inch Classic wheels wrapped in 275/45/19 rubber improve comfort and handling.

The setup includes two 10-inch LCD screens installed in the backs of the front seats; a nine-liter bottle cooler behind the center console and moonroof are optional. As always, there's an enormous amount of leather, wood and wool applied to the spacious interior.

Most likely the engine lineup will be borrowed from the Continental GT Speed - the Bentley Continental Flying Spur will come with a 616 horsepower version of the W12 standard and it sends that power to the ground through a new eight-speed automatic transmission and a rear-biased (40/60) all-wheel-drive system.

Launching the 5,451-pound sedan from 0-60 miles per hour will take just 4.3 seconds and 100 mph comes in less than 10 seconds and has a top speed of 200 mph. Bentley is still expecting the next-generation Flying Spur to return better EPA fuel economy than the current model with projected (but not certified) estimates will return 12 mpg in city driving and 20 mpg on the highway.

For a car that will surely retain a starting price of just under $195,000 for the base model - we'll get a full look at the Flying Spur at the upcoming Geneva Auto Show.
